Hiss...

Today wasn't too eventful... woke up, went to class, then went to run a few errands, like going to the bike shop and getting some socks.

But my day did get pretty interesting when I went to Allen's Boots to get some socks. We were in there browsing at the boots I'm going to get whenever I start my exotic game ranch, where the dress code requires gator skin boots, and there was a pair of Luchesse snake skin boots that jumped out at me. The boots literally jumped out at me! On the toe of the boot it had the actual snake head. The boot, note as I say boot, singular, actually had a pretty cool story behind it. Apparently the guy who bought them- already being super rich because they had to have had at least a $5k tag buys a pair, notices that one of the snake heads isn't properly straight, and instead of returning the pair he keeps one of the boots, lets Allen's keep the other one as a display and orders another pair from Luchesse in San Antonio.

I mean to be quite honest I think if I had those boots I wouldn't ever wear them because it is just a tad bit creepy having two snake heads on your toes, but I guess some people are into that kind of stuff.

This moment in the day is the only time where I have turtle pace internet, which is a hare bit faster than snail pace- giving me the capabilities to copy and paste a post in here, as well as check my facebook. I'm working on getting the internet upgraded, but I can't even get the AT&T website pulled up...

I'll also give a shout out to Kyle as today is his birthday... Happy Birthday man!

Gravity, Old Age, and a Lost Prescription...

That's pretty much the gist of my British Literature class... Right now we are learning about the Knights of the Round Table and King Arthur, and I must say it is a pretty fun topic when you come of age to understand everything from what was once thought of as childish movies. Desires fuel everything for noble and aristocrats in that era, and you can just use your imagination to the extent that the topics of this class cover. The funny thing is that we are only three days into that class.

My literature class has a large amount of workload and I have been maintaining myself pretty well and keeping up with all the difficult readings that keep being thrown at us, and I must admit it is pretty fun decyfering Old English.

As for everything else lately... The weather is horrible! Freezing cold and rainy, and I sure am glad Santa brought leather gloves this year.

Word of the day: Drag Rats- the definition of the hobos that live on the drag.

Riding with a lost cause

Today was pretty chill...

The weather in Austin has been a bit chilly the past two days, and I want it to be in the 60's again.

After waking up at 1:00 today I met up with Kyle to go mountain biking on the Green Belt, which is a local trail here in Austin by Zilker Park. The trail is extremely rocky and is sort of an out and back concept with a bunch of side trails on it, so it is pretty fun, but I am really not a fan of the whole out and back concept. So after going many miles into it we decided we didn't want to turn back, so we just kept following it all the way to the end. Well that was an adventure within itself. We get quite a ways in, following the creek, and it just turns from a mountain bike trail to a double black diamond hiking trail, which is not the terrain to be messing around with in bike shoes. So midway through our hiking expedition we hear this really loud generator thing and figure it must be a sign of hope before we send out our final S.O.S. After finding the right trail at the 3-way fork we saw one going up a hill, so we figured that must be it, and we finish our journey to in this guys backyard where he's refinishing his deck. After questioning him on our location he said we could cut through his backyard and get on the street, and I had found the neighborhood that I am living in when I am older, nice houses with 30% grade rolling hills. We finished up our journey at the 9th street jumps and watched some guys take on some killer air for about 30 minutes while I meditated my mind and got ready for my 6 hours worth of reading that needed to be accomplished before bed time.

Right near the end of my Communications chapter it started talking about Plagiarism and such and had a speech that had been said by our good ol' Vice President, Joe Biden, that had been paraphrased by the Labor Union leader at the time of England. I thought it was pretty funny and went on to read about how he had gotten disciplined for this same act back in his days at Yale and such. I just found it a tad ironic how he is the VP of the United States, as well as the fact that all people can talk about is how Palin shoots elk from her helicopter when the Republican party gets mentioned. Way to vote America!

On a happier note I have history in the morning and I must get there 20 minutes before class starts so I can have an actual seat unlike last time where I was sitting on the floor.

Slow Internet

So I have to do things a little differently since the internet in my apartment is so crappy. To be honest I think the dial up we had back in the 90’s was faster than this, and it is quite a scam because AT&T leaves brochures on our door for hi-speed executive access for $35 a month, so I think I will best stick to the free internet and do useful stuff somewhere else. But hey it gives me more study time.

So for the past few days I have been writing some posts and trying to post them but it doesn’t work, so I am going to post a mass of the past week of my life right now.

Tuesday January 20, 2009

Today was my first day of school and I was excited. I haven’t been this excited for school to start since elementary school. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I have a 4 classes back to back starting at 9:30, and each of them fall into place at the right times of the day to keep me attentive.

My first class is a communications class, which I think is probably one of the only classes that I will be able to apply in my real life in the real world.

My next class is English, where we are studying British literature… It seems like it will be a good class, and the professor seems pretty cool.

After that I have Astronomy and I would have to say that the Professor of that class is a genius. He has been teaching this class since 1970 so it seems pretty fair as well as the fact that he wrote the book, and has presented on the Discovery Channel.

My last class of the day is Calculus II. Since I really enjoy numbers it’s a good class to have at the end of the day, and that Professor is 100 times better than the one that I had last semester. He even explained some stuff today that changed my whole outlook on the subject, and gave me more ways to use what I had learned last year.

So I can happily say so far that this semester is going to go by really well.
After I take a little break to rest my mind for the day I am going to hit the books like I have never done before. As well as the fact that this past week I had a revelation about reading… I love to read now!!!

Wednesday January 21, 2009

Today was my second day of classes. On Wednesdays I have my history class as well as a TA session for math class. My math TA this semester is 100 times better than the one I had last semester, and I think that is because she loves doing the job, while others just have to do it to get pre-reqs for their graduate degree. As well it turns out that I have the best Calculus teacher in the school so its pretty nice.

Thursday January 22, 2009

Today was another repeat of Tuesday, except we actually started doing work. In communications, which is one of my favorite classes, we were assigned to do an elevator speech, which is a speech you would give to a higher power if you had the chance to ride the elevator up with them. I had a lot of fun with mine and did it to Jason Dimon, the CEO of J.P. Morgan Chase Bank.

Something else big in my life happened too. I got a new pair of Sperry’s. My old ones were starting to get kind of angered with all the walking around campus, so I decided it was time to freshen up and get a clean pair. Time for another few years of breaking them in and hopefully being as comfortable as my old ones…

Friday January 23, 2009

Ahhh… Friday… the end of the week, and beginning of the weekend. I set up my Fridays to be pretty laid back and chill.

I woke up in pretty bad shape. I am never eating at Pluckers again, not to say the least.

...

Last night I rented Tropic Thunder because I have been wanting to watch it since it came out, and I’ll just say it was a really funny movie.

Went for a good ride today with Kyle, Bennet, and Logan to ease up and freshen up my mind with all that’s been going on lately. It was a good ride all in all.

We're NEVER coming here on a nice Sunday ever again...

So there are two days until school starts, and I've been taking care of some business here and there so I shall be prepared.

Today I have been pretty productive. I slept in until 10 or so and started cleaning my bathroom.

We went riding at Walnut Creek today and did 1.5 laps, which felt pretty good. During the first lap my left hand nailed a pretty good size tree and my pinky knuckle felt like it was broken, but I didn’t see the gash on my ring knuckle until after our ride when I pulled my glove off.

Kyle and I came to the conclusion that we are never going to Walnut Creek in the mid afternoon on probably the nicest day in January again. There were way too many people out there that didn't have a clue what to do, and it was quite a neucense.

I arrived back to my place with something I have never seen before. Can you guess? Probably not… a clean kitchen!!! I found out yesterday that my roommate, who is from China, has a friend that is starting to study here at UT this semester and apparently she is moving in, so I guess he is trying to impress her by having a clean place when she comes. I’m not really looking forward to it because that means my apartment is going to smell twice as bad, but hopefully she can play his mommy and clean up after him.

__________...

Had a pretty lazy day today but it was something I’ve wanted for a while.

Last night I hung out with Kyle and Chris and we went on a late night ghetto Walmart trip with an aimless cause, but then Chris decided he wanted Guitar Hero. Ended up getting that at Best Buy and Kyle was about to school the employee but the worker backed down because I was talking Kyle up. I used the rest of my gift card on season 4 of Entourage and let’s just say that’s what I have been doing all day.

I got on the trainer a little earlier today as well, so I haven’t been completely lazy.

As well I really felt like reading a book so I went to Intellectual Property, which by my surprise is having a store closing sale and I picked up The Curious Case of Benjamin Button for quite a steal. Been wanting to watch the movie, but I’ll actually read the book first this time.

Hectic Night

So I have had some time to recover since coming back yesterday, and I just uploaded my camera.

This video makes me feel pretty relaxed.
video
Last night was pretty eventful though. Kyle and I went to Wal-mart to get some grocery shopping done and then the trouble started. When I was unloading my car I came back down to notice that it was gone! It ended up getting towed to some odd location in the middle of nowhere and those towing companies are not the most pleasant people to deal with. It took me about 15 minutes to pry directions out of the guy and if you make them feel threatened in any way they will hang up on you, but I guess that is the power that they hold. So after paying the $193 fee I got my car back and got back home safely.

Our drive home from Leakey was pretty pleasant. I talked Kyle into stopping at all the places on the way back that I wanted to stop at on the way up. Which was the hat store in Fredricksberg and the gas station/ leather/ sausage store out in the middle of nowhere, where we got some good ol sausage on a stick.

I sure wish I could go back to this landscape…

Back in ATX

Kyle and I got back to Austin around 2:00 and it feels good to be able to relax and take it easy the next few days before classes start up.

Just now I went to the Co-op and bought my books for this upcoming semester so I don’t have to deal with the long crowds in there later this week.

I finally have a class where the professor wrote the book and it seems like it will be pretty cool. The class it is for is my second semester of astronomy.

Since I didn’t ride today I hopped on the trainer for about 30 minutes and did a nice little recovery easy spin.

At the moment I am watching the travel channel about the top 10 beaches in Florida and it is making me want to travel there.

Pretty soon I will post up some pictures and such from the trip, but I’m feeling a bit lazy at the moment.

Last Day of Camp

Well today is our last day of the UT cycling camp. This morning a cool front went through around 6 A.M. making the high around 38 degrees for the early part of the day. When I woke up I went outside to feel it and it was way too cold for me to go ride, so I am just going to hop on the trainer for a good 30 minutes or so when I get back to Austin.

I’m ready to go back in sleep in my own bed and prepare all my stuff for school to start next Tuesday, which I am actually looking forward to.

I also just got a transaction completed on ebay with this new style of selling with ebay. I sold a cuckoo clock.

Day 3 and Top 7

Today’s ride was over to Camp Wood. We did 50 miles or so, and let’s just say that I was riding a whole lot better today than I was yesterday. Yesterday after the ride all I could think about was taking a nice little nap, but today I am feeling energized.

Now we have one more day of this beautiful riding then it’s time to go back to Austin. I’m starting to feel my speed and endurance coming back, which was the problem I had trying to make my comeback prior, but being away from everything is making me more and more motivated to become a bike racer again.

To keep some readers and followers hooked I decided to post my top 5 women as well, but I’ll go ahead and do top 7. So let’s see who my picks are.

16. Miley Cyrus- She may be young but when she comes of age she will be higher on the list.

13. Lindsay Lohan- I had to put her in this list, I mean I’ve had a crush on here ever since Parent Trap and she just keeps getting hotter and hotter.

7. Alessandro Ambrosio- First spokesman for the PINK line is an understatement.

6. Jessica Alba- The fact that she is a MILF makes her even hotter.

5. Carrie Underwood- Looks and a voice… Amazing

4. Marisa Miller- The jump from Sports Illustrated to Victoria Secret was very nice.

3. Julianne Hough- This dancing with the stars star is a hottie.

2. Megan Fox- Many say she should be number one but I beg to differ.

1. Adriana Lima- By far the hottest girl in the world.

Camp Day II

Today we went on the traditional Vanderpool 62 mile ride and it went really well. Right now I am sitting in bed resting my legs.

The ride was a zone 2 ride and zone 4 on the hills, and for those of you that don’t know what that means, let me give you the run down on what Kyler told us, that actually explained it to me for the first time, without goofy percentages and heart rate numbers.

Zone 1- Bored and talking
Zone 2- Not bored but easy to talk
Zone 3- Riding decent with easy talking
Zone 4- Riding at a pace you could hold for about an hour with a little bit of talking
Zone 5- Riding hard with a few curse words

Most of the base mile training that has been taking place with me for the past few weeks has been the same as today, zone 2 with moments of zone 4 when the terrain calls for it.

I’m really enjoying being here as well with this club. The camp is nice and chill so I have a lot of time to just take it easy and relax when I’m not on the bike, which is really nice.

Long Time

It's been quite a while since I last posted but I've been doing well. This past semester went well at UT and I am getting ready to start my next one.

As with a new semester and a new year comes my resolution- to make my comeback. Over the winter break I started training again. I think I rode more miles in that short 3 weeks than the whole past year and a half combined, so that's a good start.

Right now I am in Leakey with the UT cycling club for their annual training camp, and plan to hit some more hard miles getting ready to race.

The internet is pretty shady right now but when I get back to Austin I will be sure to post up some more photos of my trip here.
